How The Gorpcore Fashion Trend Is Making Practical Fashion Cool Feat. @This Is Antwon

Gorpcore, a term coined by Jason Chen in a 2017 piece for The Cut, describes a fashion aesthetic that gives the sense that one loves the greater outdoors. Gorp stands for “Good Ol’ Raisins and Peanuts,” an ode to efficient energy snacks regularly used by hiking enthusiasts on their trail runs and expeditions. However, this aesthetic is not a new phenomenon. Many street styles have been born through practicality. What Chen did was create an all-encompassing term that can accurately be used to describe this specific style.

At its very core essence, the Gorpcore aesthetic is about utility. Extra pockets for carrying food supplies and GORE-TEX pro materials for advanced waterproofing and breathability are standard clothing features of the style. Brands with performance as their primary focus are associated with Gorpcore. Arc’teryx, Salomon and Patagonia are examples of brands included in the core focus group of the style.
